Learning objectives

The course aims to provide the ability to carry out the energy diagnosis of the building, through the use of specific software, and to evaluate possible interventions for energy efficiency.

Prerequisites

To follow the course successfully requires basic knowledge of Applied Physics.

Course unit content

Energy analysis of buildings and use of renewable energy sources

Full programme

General information on available energy resources. Energy certification of buildings. National and community legislation. The energy balance of the building: heat losses through walls and transparent closing elements, thermal bridges, heat losses towards the ground, ventilation losses; internal and solar heat gains.
Efficiency of the heating system: generation, distribution, emission, regulation. Renewable energy sources: solar thermal and photovoltaic collectors; heat pump.
Assessement of energy performance through the use of specific software.

Bibliography

Course notes and software manuals.

Teaching methods

Lecture and exercises in the computer room with the use of specific software.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam consists in the presentation and discussion of a case study of energy diagnosis and requalification.
