Learning objectives

At the end of the course students will have acquired basic knowledge on Italian poetry of the twentieth century and in-depth knowledge on Le Occasioni and the work of Montale.

Knowledge and understanding:
students will develop knowledge and understanding skills in the
field of Italian poetry of the twentieth century, in the historical-critical perspective, and from the thematic, stylistic and metric point of view.

Knowledge and understanding skills will be applied: students will be able to apply the knowledge and skills of the
understanding acquired in order to set up an organic discourse on twentieth century poetry. At the same time, students will strengthen their ability to understand poetic texts, and refine their skills in
problem solving with reading, analyzing and commenting on new texts.

Autonomy of judgment:
students will develop textual interpretation skills aimed at the formulation of aesthetic judgments, but also at the contextualization of twentieth century poetic texts in relation to poetics and contemporary movements.

Communication skills:
thanks to the exercises proposed on textual analysis in class and discussed in a workshop, the students will develop their communication skills in relation to the acquisition of a technical language that includes the knowledge of the metrical forms and the rhetorical figures present in the poems, and will also able to link text and context, themes and poetics.

Ability to learn:
thanks to the general system of the course, i
students will develop the skills of textual analysis necessary to pursue autonomously the reading of 20th century Italian poetry.

Course unit content

Satura and the poetry of Eugenio Montale.
A large part of the course will focus on the poetic collection Satura by Eugenio Montale, read and analyzed in its thematic, stylistic and metric aspects against the background of the Italian 20th century poetic context.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam

The average marks (24-27 / 30) come
assigned to the student who has a level more than
sufficient (24-25 / 30) or good (26-27 / 30)
The highest marks (from 28/30 to 30/30 and honors) are awarded based on the demonstration of a level from good to excellent in both parts of the exam.
