HISTORY OF THE THEATER AND PERFORMING ARTS
Learning outcomes of the course unit
Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course students acquire basic knowledge about the history of western performance, understanding the diversity of models produced by different eras and cultures, becoming aware of the relationships that exist in different societies between the components of the theatrical performance ( dramaturgy, use of space and scenography, acting of actors, organization of entertainment.
Knowledge and understanding skills applied: students will be able to apply their knowledge and understanding skills to a basic knowledge of the history of theater and entertainment, both in terms of dramaturgical and spectacular aspects as well as the cultural role and social of theater in different cultures.
Autonomy of judgment: students will develop the ability to collect and interpret data useful for determining independent judgments in the history of theater and entertainment, including transversal reflections on cultural and intercultural, historical and anthropological issues related to them.
Communication skills: thanks to the dialogic communication that will be established during the lessons, the students will be able to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to specialists and non-specialist interlocutors.
Ability to learn: thanks to the general system of the course that focuses on the cultural processes of theater and entertainment in a social and anthropological context, students will develop the learning skills necessary to complete, with a good degree of autonomy, more specialized studies , but more generally also as learners in the second cycle.
Course contents summary
After a first part dedicated to the presentation of the discipline and the illustration of the course structure, the teaching will focus mainly on the illustration of the different "theater ideas" of Western culture history, from Greek and Roman, from medieval to Renaissance, from the baroque to the nineteenth century, from that of the historical avant-gardes to the contemporary one.

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment method consists of an oral examination in which the student must demonstrate knowledge of the topics covered in the manual indicated, as well as the topics covered during the lectures. Those who have not been able to attend with diligence must demonstrate knowledge of the contents of the manual and of the other indicated volume. An assessment of insufficiency is determined by the lack of knowledge of the minimum contents of the course; from the incapacity to express themselves adequately to the topic; from the lack of autonomous preparation; from the inability to solve problems related to the retrieval of information and the decoding of texts; as well as the inability to make judgments in an autonomous way and to communicate contents, analyzes and judgments in a reasoned, competent and convincing way both to specialists and non-specialists. Sufficient evaluation (18-23 / 30) is determined by an acceptable level of performance by the student of the aforementioned evaluation indicators; the average scores (24-27 / 30) are awarded to the student who proves to have a level more than sufficient (24-25 / 30) or good (26-27 / 30) of the above evaluation indicators, the highest scores ( from 28/30 to 30/30 cum laude) are awarded based on the demonstration of a level from excellent to excellent.
