1. Knowledge and understanding. Students should achieve a sound understanding of theoretical models of cognition as a guide for basic and applied research.
2. Applying knowledge and understanding. Students should be capable of using their notions to illustrate and understand results of scientific literature.
3. Autonomy of judgment. Students should develop critical skills and autonomy of judgment in describing and interpreting scientific data.
4. Communication skills. Students should be able to communicate, either in oral and written form, the theoretical bases and results of a scientific work on the topics of the course.
5. Learning skills. Students should be able to learn and to use the presented models for understanding the results of the scientific literature.
Course contents summary
This course presents the main theoretical models of cognitive processes emphasizing current models that highlight how cognition depends on the interaction among mind, body and social environment.
Survey of cognitive processes: history and methods. The approach of cognitive psychology. Embodied and grounded cognition. Social cognition. Attention, perception and motor system. Memory, representation and knowledge. Language and action.

Lectures. Space will be devoted to seminars where students will be invited to submit short reports on specific topics covered in the class.
Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam on the text books. For attending students, written partial exams, during class time, on subsets of the materials dealt with in the course may replace the oral exam.
