Learning objectives

a. Knowledge and understanding: the student will acquire knowledge on the basic concepts of the use of Excel spreadsheet or other software tools used in companies.

b. Applying knowledge and understanding: the student will be able to process company data through electronic tools such as Excel spreadsheet and to use some business software.

c. Making judgments: the student will be able to analyze and evaluate the main indicators deriving from the processing of company data with the Excel spreadsheet and other company software.

d. Communication skills: at the end of the course the student will have acquired skills in analyzing the problems inherent in the processing of company data and expression skills with an appropriate language to discuss the topics covered in the Laboratory.

e. Learning skills: at the end of the course, the student will be able to assess what is the appropriate data processing tool and to modify its actions according to the information objectives that it wants to achieve.

Prerequisites

Basic course on Excel spreadsheet. Basic skills in business statistics and data analysis.

Course unit content

The course is structured in two parts. The first part concerns the main aspects related to the use of the Excel spreadsheet and will cover the following topics: definition of data base; structure and creation of a database (tables, fields and records); Excel spreadsheet (main concepts, structure, folders, sheets and cells, writing of predefined formulas and functions, tools for data management); creation of a database with the help of the spreadsheet and application of the main management and analysis tools. In the second part, auditors present software for data processing.

Teaching methods

Knowledge and understanding (a) and ability to apply knowledge and understanding (b) will be achieved through lectures. Making judgments (c), communication skills (d) and learning skills (d), through exercises in computer lab.

Assessment methods and criteria

The achievement of the above training objectives will be verified through the performance of group work in the classroom and the oral presentation of the results.
