Course unit content

The History of Italian Literature in the 18th and 19th century is characterized by a very important factor. The new context of literary production, involving middle class industrial publishing, lead to the development of the novel as the literary genre most appealing to the new reading class.
These factors contributed to change the inside role of literary production, to increase some genre (as novel) and to undermine some other (as the Poetry).
The second part of the lessons will explain the problem of the relation between History and Literature, with the particular case of Italian works about Resistance. Last, we will read and comment the literary production of Beppe Fenoglio.
