The course will provide means suitable for a theoretical approach to film, focusing on its aesthetic and philosophical impact, and allowing students to grasp the forms of dialogue between cinema and the XX century artistic and industrial system.
Course contents summary
The course aims to cope with the major theories of the XX century that have worked on the forms of filmic involvement and on the possible interaction between the viewer and the screen. We will start from the very beginning of film theory with the contributions from film physiology and the psychology of cinema, reaching the great season of French and Italian "filmology". Passing through the relevant field of studies represented by the phenomology of film and the cognitive film studies, we will conclude reflecting on the contribution cognitive neuroscience can offer to contemporary film studies.
