Learning objectives

The goal of this ADE is to provide students with the means to evaluate and recognize the symptoms of a pelvic dysfunction, in order to be able to direct the patient from an expert in pelvic rehabilitation.
Students will then be able to recognize the specific dysfunction thanks to the evaluation and the patient's medical history, and will be able to set up an initial conservative treatment to limit the progression of the pathology.

Course unit content

Theoretical contents:
• Anatomy of the male and female pelvic floor (p.f.) (pelvis bone structure, muscular structure, innervation)
• Physiology of p.f.
• Functions of the p.f.
• Physiological processes (pregnancy, childbirth, menopause)
• Pathologies (urological, proctological, sexual, andrological, neurological, pediatric)
• Classification and description of signs and symptoms
• Therapies and treatments (kinesitherapy and tools)

Practical contents:
• evaluation
• rehabilitation folder compilation
• teaching of primary exercises for the prevention of pelvic dysfunctions
• manual therapy approach of external musculature
• use of biofeedback and electrostimulation
