Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the basic knowledge of the processes involved in the determination of the composition of the waters.

Prerequisites

Course unit content
Fundaments of thermodynamics. Chemical components of the waters. Concentrations. Water solution equilibria. Saturation index. The hydrological cycle and geochemical behaviour of the waters. Composition and classification of the waters. Solubility of minerals. Redox reactions in the groundwaters. Adsorbtion and ion exchange. Geothermal waters. Software for calculations of speciation in waters. Lab activity includes the determinations of alkalinity, hardness and the main catiions and anions, whereas field activity includes the sampling of the waters and the determination of labile parameters.
