Integrated course unit module: OBSTETRIC AND GYNECOLOGICAL PATHOLOGY

Learning objectives

The student will gain knowledge about the main causes of obstetric emergencies and learn the first steps to be taken to address them
will be able to explain to patients the steps of the various procedures and to have good interactions with doctors and other health providers

Prerequisites

knowledge of the physiology of pregnancy and childbirth

Course unit content

Bleeding from the placenta praevia.
Placental abruption and other causes of bleeding in the third trimester,
postpartum hemorrhage.
Therapeutic diagnostic path of the postpartum hemorrhage. Medical and surgical emergencies in pregnancy.
Obstetric emergencies: umbilical cord prolapse, inversion of the uterus. labor and delivery in women with previous C-section,
rupture of the uterus.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student’s knowledge, topics’ comprehension and her/his skills to apply them on the occupational contexts will be evaluated by questions on the topics related to the program of the lessons . Failed to give a proper answer to the clinical questions and limited and basic knowledge on the subject will preclude the successful completion of the exam. The final evaluation will be given taking into account the evaluations related to the other part of the course which could be given by written rests it will be based on the achievement of the objectives (excellent, good, fair, fully sufficient, barely sufficient).
