Learning objectives

To be able to perform a speech-language evaluation of the dysphonic patient in the developmental and adult age; draw up an appropriate therapeutic project and provide adequate vocal hygiene advice.

Course unit content

Overview of anatomo-physiology of the pneumo-phono-articulatory apparatus. Definition of euphonic and dysphonic voice. Mode of issuing the normal and deviant entry. Breathing: types and evaluation. Body and laryngeal posture: evaluation. Phonation: vocal attack, pneumonic-phonic arrangement, resonance and articulation. Distinctive parameters of the item. Etiological correlates and importance of vocal hygiene. Classification of dysphonies according to the etiological criterion and related treatment. The voice in the different ages of life: a speech-language approach to the child, the adolescent and the elderly. The therapeutic procedure: aspecific and specific phase of the logopedic treatment.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons with the aid of slides and audio files. The lessons will be held in the classrooms and with materials made available by the University of Parma.
