Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and the basic concepts of sociology and social research through a theoretical part , linked to the study of society, and a portion oriented empirical analysis of the main methods of research and the application of the main instruments .
Course contents summary
The course aims to provide the theoretical and conceptual basis for addressing the study of sociology and to the analysis of collective phenomena own of complex societies . Much of the course is devoted to the fundamental categories of sociological modernity ; social action ; the values , norms and social institutions ; identity and differences ; socialization ; the gender and the life course ; groups and organizations ; education and instruction ; inequality and social stratification ; social mobility ; the family; the religion; deviance and crime ; production and consumption ; politics , the state , the movements . Part of the course will be devoted to the study of the statistics applied to social science bases .

Assessment methods and criteria
Procedures and time will be agreed during class
The exam will be written with two open questions related to the part of sociology and some questions on the statistics ( for example, what is the average , how is it calculated , what types of associations exist between two variables ... ). The term paper (which will be worth for the examination) must be sent by mail to the teacher at least two weeks before the exam.
