Integrated course unit module: PHYSIOLOGY AND NEUROPHYSIOLOGY OF MOTOR CONTROL

Learning objectives

Adapted physical activity is focused on people with disabilities. The course also aims to provide theoretical and practical knowledge on the means, methods and content of training, depending on age, gender, morphological characteristics and the type of disability of the subjects. Moreover, at the end of the course, the student should know the classification and health care of physical activities and sports in the disabled, the conditions and major alterations of the several organs and systems that affect the performance of physical activity in people with disabilities.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The course aim to provide students with the fundamental knowledge of: 1) classification of physical activities and sports for people with disabilities and training methods adapted to the conditions of disability; 2) specific language related to physical activities and sports in terms of disability; 3) importance of adapted physical exercise to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Students must be able to: recognize the main functional alterations limiting athletic performance; indicate to disabled athletes the training techniques as part of adapted sports; organize physical activity and sport educational programs for people with disabilities.
MAKING JUDGEMENTS
Students must be able to sustain a discussion with elements of adapted physical activity and sport education.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Students must possess the sufficient technical language in adapted physical activity and sport education.
LEARNING SKILLS
Students must be able to read a simple scientific text on adapted physical activity and sport education

Course unit content

The course aims to introduce guidelines for the prescription of exercises for the main disability, the relevant tests for evaluation and intervention programs, general and individualized. The course aims to teach how to lead and manage the adapted physical activities and sports, according to the process of education, rehabilitation and adaptation of bio-psycho-social environment of the subject.
The program examines:
Definition of deficits, disability and various aspects of the disability
Disability in school
Learning and technical aspects of physical activity and sport
Adapted physical activity and sport: methodological aspects of teaching
educational intervention Design
Health care of adapted physical activity and sport.
