Learning outcomes of the course unit
To give to the student the knowledge about the sheep and goat and buffalo productions, and the production of cattle meat.
Course contents summary
Dairy sheep, goat and buffalo production: Sheep, goat and buffalo rearing technologies. Milk production and quality.
Cattle meat production: Breeding techniques of beef cattle: choice of the breeders, reproduction, lactation and weaning. Veal calf production, bullock production from milk and beef breeds. Carcass features and meat quality in the different classes. Sheep meat production: Sheep breeding techniques: reproduction, lactation and weaning. Suckling lamb production. Light and heavy lamb production. Castrated male production. Carcass and meat features in the different classes.
Guided visits to cattle, sheep and buffalo herds.
