Learning objectives

The purpose of the Course is to strengthen the students' linguistic and translative competence, getting them accustomed to various textual types.
In particular, the Course aims at:
- enriching the student's lexical competence;
- getting the student accustomed to a correct use of the monolingual and bilingual dictionary;
- putting him/her in contact with the most important difficulties in the transfert from French to Italian and viceversa;
- developing the student's critical capacities and of his/her literary and linguistic sensibility.

Prerequisites

It is necessary for the students to possess B1 Level of the CERC (Cadre Européen de Référence pour les Langues), in order to follow appropriately the course. The lessons will be totallly taught in French.

Course unit content

The Course constitutes an introduction to the main translation theories and it is an approach to the most important translation techniques.

Teaching methods

The Course will be developed conforming tod different didactic methods, in order to stimulate students' interest and participation. In particulare, it will be developed through:
- Conferences;
- Audio and Video documents;
- Analysis of different linguistic registers: literary, familiar, argotic, etc...;
- Introduction to the use of the bilingual and monolingual dictionary.

Assessment methods and criteria

The final Examination will be composed by 2 parts:
a) a written test, concerning the translation of a literary text from French into Italian.
This test aims at the evaluation of the students' translating competence obtained during the course and the relative Seminar;
b) an oral Test, during which the students' competence will be verified about the main translating processes and technics.
The written test is propedeutic to the oral one. Only the students that obtained 18/30 or more could stand the oral test.

ERASMUS Students are requested to submit to Prof. Valenti the possible integrations of their Program.
