Learning objectives

The course sets out to provide the clinical and diagnostic foundations for dealing rationally with the main disorders afflicting pets, both individually and in breeding environments.

Course unit content

<p>Management of patient’s health (management of young, veterinary gerontology, main infectious diseases in dogs and cats (FIV, FeLV, FIP, FCV, FHV-1, FVP, chlamydophila felis, canine parvovirus, coronavirus, infectious hepatitis, distemper, canine herpesvirus). Allergic diseases in dogs, cats and horses (food intolerances/allergies, feline asthma, flea allergy dermatitis, insect hypersensitivity, photosensitisation dermatitis, RAO). Principal cardiopulmonary problems (systemic hypertension, diseases of the airways and pleuras); gastrointestinal system (hepatobiliary disorders, acute and chronic pancreatitis, deficiency of the exocrine pancreas). Disorders of the urinary system (disorders of the lower urinary tracts, diseases of the upper urinary tracts). Endocrinopathies in pets (disorders of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, disorders of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, disorders of the adrenal glands, disorders of the endocrine pancreas). Neuromuscular disorders (myasthenia gravis, Horner’s syndrome). Haematology and immunology (disorders of the haemostasis, endotoxemia). Notions of veterinary oncology (biopsy techniques, oncological emergencies). Principal diseases in exotic animals (tortoises, saurians, ornamental ophidians)</p>
