Learning objectives

At the end of this course the student should have a good knowledge and comprehension of the following topics:
The structure and functions of the different types of genetic laboratories
The role of the technicians inside the laboratories
Accreditation and certification of genetic laboratories: why and how.
Once acquired this background, the student should be able to perform the following activities Know and apply the safety procedures for laboratories
Know and apply the safety procedures for operators
Know and apply the safety procedures for sample and data

Course unit content

The course treats of the organisation of the laboratories of medical genetics according to the italian law and to the Europen Community rules on genetic testing. In particular the role of the technicians is analysed.
