SPANISH LITERATURE II
Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course aims to give students in-depth knowledge of the essentials of the history of Spanish literature of the seventeenth century, making it possible to understand the literary phenomena; aims, in addition, the acquisition of interpretative methodologies to be applied, even individually, the authors of the study and analysis of texts taken into consideration. In particular, students learn to:
-know the main authors, works, movements of the Spanish narrative of the seventeenth;
Understand and analyze poems, drama and narrative, in the original language, which have stylistic and thematic complexity;
-reperire independently, understand and rework critically about the issues mentioned, using the bibliography;
-esprimere, in Spanish, complex content, analysis and formulate opinions on the texts, literary critics, and on the issues studied, using a register appropriate language and specific vocabulary of literary studies (and corresponding to level B2);
-apply skills developed during the course to literary texts for individual study.
Course contents summary
The course covers the Spanish fiction from the second half of the sixteenth to the seventeenth century, which will study the major literary phenomena, the authors and the most important works. Emphasis will be given during the lessons, the analysis of the narrative work of Cervantes, in particular Don Quijote de la Mancha (1605), the most famous novel of Spanish literature and universal in Spanish. The first part of the course will illustrate how the novella Greek and Byzantine to the picaresque novel.
Students will be required, in addition, individual study of a manual of Spanish literature (which will deepen their knowledge of the historical-cultural, artistic and literary movements and writers of the period), and a few works of fiction (in translation Italian or Spanish with Italian text). A detailed list of the works will be in the examination program, which will be available at the Area of Foreign Languages and Literature from the beginning of the lessons.

The lectures, held in Spanish and Italian, will be used to present the historical and cultural context, the authors and the selected works, and guide the student in the use of the bibliography, which will be deepened through self-study; the lessons will serve also to introduce the texts in their original language, which will be read and analyzed by the teacher, but constantly stimulating the participation of the student and an independent approach to the understanding of literary phenomena and the interpretation of texts.
Assessment methods and criteria
The verification of knowledge and skills is through an oral exam in Spanish and Italian. The knowledge and skills tested are:
-the knowledge of the historical and cultural context, of literary phenomena, authors and texts of the relevant period, obtained through an individual study and reworking independent content;
-the ability to read, understand and analyze literary texts presented during the course and those studied individually, also in an original and critical;
-a oral proficiency in Spanish that corresponds to level B2, and the mastery of the use of a register and vocabulary adequate exposure and discussion of literary themes.
The oral test is to assess the acquisition of knowledge and skills above, the ability to deepen them and process them in an original way, and the ability to apply themselves to the analysis of the text, and to express critical opinions, including through comparisons and original reworkings .
Therefore, an evaluation of failure is determined by the lack of knowledge of the minimum requirements established by the course and the ability to rework, lack of understanding and analysis of complex texts, of adequate oral proficiency in Spanish and the ability to find information independently and to make judgments original. Sufficient evaluation (18-23 / 30) is determined by the knowledge of the minimum requirements established by the course, with sufficient understanding and analysis of complex texts, a sufficient oral proficiency in Spanish, a sufficient ability to find information so autonomous and make personal judgments. An average rating (24-27 / 30) is determined by the achievement of a level more than sufficient (24-25 / 30) or good (26-27 / 30) indicators to assess above. A high rating (from 28/30 to 30/30 and praise) is determined by the achievement of a level as very good to excellent indicators of the same evaluation.
