Learning objectives

The integrated course Special Semeiotic aims to enable the student to know and understand the essential elements of the etiology, pathogenesis, symptomatology of the main non-inflammatory disease of the hearing system. In particular, the student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding in the use of different audiometric methods in order to provide a correct diagnostic instruments. The ability to use knowledge and understanding should enable the student to navigate successfully in cochlear implant indications in pediatric and adult. Knowledge of the most important pediatric diseases of interest speech therapy. The course also aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the course evaluation and speech therapy nell'ipoacusia-onset pre-verbal and experience and knowledge of prosthetic devices (implants, cochlear implants, FM systems.); provides the specific skills required in the professional profile that is being evaluated in the treatment planning of auditory deprivation. The student should be able to achieve adequate skills in programming a specific assessment in the diagnostic workup in children and in the process of selection cochlear implant hearing loss in pre-verbal and post-verbal. The student must acquire a specific language that enables him to compare with other professionals, the ability to administer assessment tests perceptual-verbal aloud, calculate the communicative profile, transcribe a Video-Analysis and a language production, learn scales international assessment in children. At the end of the course and internship, the student, on the basis of knowledge and understanding, must acquire descriptive and observational ability of a therapeutic act in the developmental age, schedule a session treatment for specific targets, acquire the technique of speech tracking.Il course of "the speech in autism and pervasive developmental disorders" is intended to allow the student to know and understand the clinical picture of autism and pervasive developmental disorders, diagnostic tools and evaluation and the guidelines of the path rehabilitation. The course also aims to enable students to acquire the ability to use the knowledge and understanding acquired in order to move competently and independently within a team of assessment and taking charge. It also aims to illustrate the possibilities rehabilitation in order to identify targets for intervention and plan an individualized rehabilitation plan.

Course unit content

The first part of the course of Otolaryngology aims to address the most important issues in the field of otological diseases not inflammatory. The topics are addressed to the basic elements of etiology, pathogenesis, symtomatology,, audiological diagnosis, with hints of medical and surgical therapy. In particular, they are treated for the following diseases: otosclerosis, Meniere's disease, Presbycusis, deafness due to noise, deafness and metabolic disorders, deafness and vascular disease, sudden deafness, Cupulocanalolitiasi, vestibular Neuronite. The Bachelor of Pediatrics is addressed to the following knowledge: Key features of the full-term newborn, Auxology, the main characteristics of the preterm infant and major diseases (respiratory distress, hypoxic-ischemic), meningitis, childhood cancer, brain tumors, l 'otitis, deafness, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), language development, genetic malformation syndromes. The lessons pertaining to speech therapy relate to the consequences of sensory deprivation in different age groups, the skills required within a multi-professional team dedicated to international guidelines on the treatment of pre-verbal hearing loss and the path Regional deafness with the LEA (essential levels of assistance); deepens the knowledge of the assessment tools and therapeutic approaches, the selection and treatment and monitoring of the results of the cochlear implant procedure in pediatric and adolescent adulta.La knowledge and speech therapy continues with the introduction on spectrum disorders autistic. Teaching methods

Oral lesson. The course program is carried out by means of the slide show and short films, in order to achieve greater student participation. The last few minutes of class are dedicated to the discussion, in order to clarify and supplement the topics covered. Lectures, supplemented by practical exercises on emblematic cases, are intended to provide an 'adequate theoretical knowledge and awareness of acting in' professional approach.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam. In the verification phase, the student must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basic elements of the main non-inflammatory disorders of the auditory and above all have the knowledge and understanding to formulate a precise plan instrumental diagnostic audiology. It must also demonstrate that they have mastered the basic elements that characterize the Cochlear Implant. The oral examination, with the participation of teachers in the integrated course, ensure the quality and level of knowledge and understanding of the course content and the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to professional practice. The assessment also evaluates the quality of student participation in class.
