Learn the fundamentals of the neurological exam and the basic principles of the neurological diagnostic process
Learn the principal concepts regarding major aspects of peripheral and central nervous system diseases.
Have passed all exams from the previous year.
Course contents summary
Neurological exam: principal neurological syndromes. Cranial nerves (special emphasis on CN-VII).
Botulinum toxin: mechanism of action and its applications in the treatment of major and minor dystonia and spasticity
! Demyelinating disease
Peripheral neuropathy (Guillain Barre syndrome and other acquired and hereditary-degenerative forms).
Mononeuropathy, radiculopathy and plexopathy
Neuromuscular transmission defects: Myasthenia gravis
Degenerative diseases: (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinsons disease, choreas, etc.).
Infectious diseases of the CNS (encephalitis; meningitis) . Myelopathy.
Overview of central nervous system and peripheral neoplasia
Electrophysiological techniques (EEG, EMG, multimodal evoked potentials: principles of method and basic information).
