DRUG ANALYSIS I
Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course, composed by theoretical lessons and individual practice training, is aimed at providing the basic notions for the qualitative and quantitative determination of substances of pharmaceutical interest. In particular, during the practical training attention will be focused on the qualitative analysis and quantitative determination of inorganic compounds of pharmaceutical interest.

Symbols, risk and safety phrases. Hazard chemicals handling procedures
Basic laboratory techniques and operations: solubilisation, dilution, precipitation, centrifugation, solvent extraction.
Solubility and solubility product

Qualitative analysis in aqueous solution: identification of anions and cations.
Introduction to spectroscopic analysis
Lab equipment and instrumentation: the analytical balance, burettes, pipettes.
Experimental error: types of errors, precision and accuracy.
Standard and normal solutions
Choice of the indicator
Preparation and standardization of solutions
Alkalimetry and acidimetry
Complexometric and chelometric titrations
