Learning objectives

The aim of the course and subsequent exam is for students to:

a) have acquired specific medical terminology

b) be familiar with the content of the NHS hand-outs and study aids provided

c) to have a good command of the English language

d) to be able to explain to a patient their condition, symptoms, give advice, treatment options and prognosis.

Prerequisites

English I and II passed.

Course unit content

This year’s programme is based on a list of topics taken from the NHS website where medical conditions and symptoms are explained to the general public using texts and videos. The videos, where GPs and specialists explain conditions, their symptoms and treatment options, are an excellent way of improving listening skills.
