Integrated course unit module: KIDNEY AND URINARY TRACT PATHOLOGIES

Learning objectives

To know and to understand the physiopathological bases of the main disorders of osmotic and electrolyte homeostasis so as to apply this information to the study of kidney disorders.

Prerequisites

The requirements have been determined by the Medical School Council.

Course unit content

The pathophysiology of fluid, electrolyte and acid-base disorders.

Full programme

Osmotic and Volume disorders: pathophysiology of water and sodium disorders

Electrolyte disorders: alterations of potassium homeostasis and acid-base disorders.

Disorders of calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.

Teaching methods

Interactive oral lessons supported by iconographic material that will be available for students.

Assessment methods and criteria

Objective achievement will be evaluated for the whole Integrated Course of Nephrology through an oral examination with a preventive multiple-choice test.
