Learning objectives
The course aims to provide students with the tools and theoretical concepts for the study of the major changes that occur during aging of various organs and systems of the body and to outline the pathophysiology of the most geriatric syndromes, essential elements for a correct approach to medical and non-medical elderly patients
Prerequisites
knowledge of anatomy, phisiology and general pathology
Course unit content
The course will be done through the analysis of various aspects of aging:
1. aging of the population and its health and social consequences;
2. Biology of aging with the main theories of aging
3. Physiology of aging: aging of the cardiovascular system, respiratory, kidney, immune system, endocrine, skeletal muscle (sarcopenia), bone, brain;
4. large geriatric syndromes with particular attention to cognitive impairment and dementia;
5. Notes on the multidimensional evaluation of the geriatric patient

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course consists of an oral examination. Through questions about the contents of the course will be determined whether the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and understanding of the content.
