ECONOMICS AND MOUNTAIN AND FOREST POLICY
Learning outcomes of the course unit
The course is aimed at teaching knowledge and understanding of the basic of the economics in rural areas; the student will also learn to apply the acquired knowledge and understanding to identify the needs of territory and to give adequate answers, making judgment and improving communication skills and learning skills.
Course contents summary
Agriculture and the rural setting, the characters of agriculture and rural Italian landscape. Agriculture in the Italian economic system. The Italian agricultural policy. The agricultural policies of the European Union. The Treaties and the EU institutions. Agricultural expenditure: the European Guidance and Guarantee Fund. Structural policies and economic and social cohesion. Environmental policies.
Environmental goods, public goods, mixed goods. Positive and negative externalities. Incentives, subsidies, taxes and standard of public intervention as a result of externalities. The values of use, option and existence. The estimation of environmental goods.
The ecological economics. Sustainable development. The determinants and adaptations of the agri-food system.
Forestry production and enterprise. The choices of the entrepreneur and forest planning. The forest-based and demand for timber. Efficiency ratios of the forest holding.
Valuation of investments. Estimates of real estate. Estimate of woods and orchards wood, parks and forest infrastructure.
