Learning objectives

Assuming that the aim of the written musical text is its execution, the course will define the concept of a critical edition of a musical text aimed at the correct interpretation. In particular, will be discussed circumstances through which the text reaches a plausible definition on the historical and exegetical plane, and will be investigated issues related to the proper performance practice.

The specific subject matter of the course is the examination and contextualisation of a critical edition created in accordance with the most updated principles of the philology of the musical text.

Oral examination. In particular, will be evaluated:
- awareness of the relationship between the textual philology and the performance practice;
- methodological competence in source criticism;
- ability to rationalize on specific issues and the correct exposure of the results.
