Learning outcomes of the course unit
Purpose of this course it to provide students with no previous knowledge of Linguistics with the knoledge of the main features of the Germanic Languages, especially as for their oldest stag in the antiquity and in the Early Middle Ages.
Knowledge, either active command or also only passive knowledge, of two modern germanic Languages.
Course contents summary
Aim of this course is to provide students with an exhaustive knowledge of the Germanic langiages in their historical development and ih their essential features. This course is divided in 20 lectures.Knowledgs of at least two Germanic languages is requeasted.
If students show a particular interest for the subject, the framework of the lectures can also be extended to other linguistic subjects related with the germanic historical linguistics.
Basic Text:"Manuale di linguistica germanica" by M.A.Saibene-M.Buzzoni (Cisalpino,MIlano). Besides, as for the Historical and Cultural frame "I Germani" by M. Battaglia (Carocci,Roma, 2013). Further bibliographical references may be added in the course of the lectures.
Assessment methods and criteria
Studente can be asked about in the course of the lectures. Students can of course also ask questions themselves.
Lectures might be also completed through other materials such as maps and so on.
