Learning outcomes of the course unit
Radiation protection course gives to the students all the fundamental concepts and the knowledge to prevent and to protect from radiation hazards. In addition the Italian and European legal system about the activities involving the use of ionising radiation are explained.

Dosimetric Quantities and Units.
Biological Effect of ionising radiation:deterministic effect and stochastic effect
External exposure and internal contamination
Health physics instrumentation: (Liquid scintillation, ionisation chamber, personal and environmental dosemeters, thermoluminescent dosemeter; etc)
Instrumentations for beta contamination: Liquid Scintillation Counting Process
Superficial contamination: smear test; beta and gamma counter
Natural radiation; radon. Fundamental principle of radiation protection:
Italian land European law( workers protection, prevention and protection rules using radioactive sources, etc. )
