Obiettivi formativi
The course aims at acquainting the students with state-of-the-art experimental techniques for materials characterization using a "hands on" approach. The experiments mimic actual research work, with the difficulties and problems normally encountered in the laboratory (i.e. they are not "pre-digested" by the tutor).

Contenuti dell'insegnamento
In the course two complex experiments shall be carried out. There shall be also 8 introductory lectures. The experiments will deal mainly with advanced spectroscopic methods to study complex molecular materials. In particular experiments using dynamic light scattering, confocal microraman and optical mutichannel absorption spectroscopies on liquid crystalline and polymeric systems are offered. An experiment on electrical conductivity in ultrathin films of polymeric conductors is also offered.

Metodi didattici
Introductory lectures give a brief wrap-up of the science behind the experiments. The main part of the course are the laboratory activities. Here the students shall be evaluated by following their efforts at solving problems enountered, capacity of obtaining information from the data, and critical analisis of their results and conclusions.
