Learning objectives

The internship experience allows the trainee to acquire experience and skills that come in useful when entering the job market. For this reason, the “learning and training objectives” play a decisive role. The internship is aimed at achieving these educational aims and that is why it is mandatory to have both a company tutor/tutor aziendale and a university tutor/tutor universitario – the latter being chosen among the faculty of the programme in Modern Foreign Languages and Civilizations.
In this regard, the company and university tutor collaborate synergistically, so that students may achieve the following educational aims:
General Aims:
• Integration into a company; access to the information relating to the company activities, particularly to the area where the internship takes place.
• Understanding of the company’s policies, especially on accident prevention, behaviour and hygiene.
Specific Aims:
• Specific aims are defined in the educational project and may vary from internship to internship. Preference will be given to activities in which students can make critical judgements on suggested topics and/or on the tasks they are asked to carry out.
Students will have the opportunity to collect information, ideas, problems and solutions, in order to autonomously draw conclusions based on their knowledge, and by talking to specialists and non-specialists.
By taking advantage of their experience in the company, at the end of the internship students will acquire skills on the topic explored in the educational project.

Prerequisites

In order to gain access to the interniship, students must be enrolled in the third year of the course.

Course unit content

The internship is an educational experience, consistent with the undergraduate programme in Modern Foreign Languages and Civilisations. It aims to enrich the students’ university experience, help them make informed decisions and direct their future careers.

Teaching methods

The educational intenship (6 CFU) is a practical activity undertaken at one of the the University’s institutions. The internship’s 150-hour-long activity is undertaken under the guidance of the tutor of the institution and is based on the project previously agreed with the tutor of one’s own study programme. The presence at the internship office can be certified by a special attendance register.

Assessment methods and criteria

The company tutor, together with the university tutor, make sure that students have completed the hours of work to meet the requirements of the internship programme and have acquired the corresponding educational aims.
At the end of the internship, the company tutor will assess the abilities shown by the student throughout the internship and will send to the university tutor a qualitative judgement (Evaluation Form). Of particular importance, in this sense, are the Basic Skills (use of languages, etc.), Technical Skills (specifically developed in a particular educational project) and other skills (organizational, interpersonal, collaborative, degree of autonomy, interest/motivation, personal initiative and sense of responsability). When the internship is concluded, the university tutor will keep an official record of it.
