Learning objectives

During the internship of the third year, during the first and second semester the student is progressively autonomous in planning and conducting, under the supervision of the tutor, the rehabilitation program in all its parts, including the identification of orthoses and aids. and the knowledge of different types of prosthetics.
The student is made autonomous in designing a home rehabilitation program.
It is made autonomous to the progressive involvement in the work of the rehabilitation team.
It is gradually made autonomous in the ability to manage the patient-family relationship.

Course unit content

TRAINING: ORTHOPEDIC, MANUAL AND SPORTS THERAPY FIELD
Identification of the main problems of the patient, after an accurate evaluation, using a clinical reasoning.Identification and implementation of the relative therapeutic proposals, supervised by the internship guide.Knowledge and choice of aids and orthoses suitable for the patient and the ability to correctly train them.Good mastery in designing and conducting a rehabilitative treatment on the adult patient with orthopedic problems, using a clinical reasoning.Knowledge and implementation of the principles of correct communication and relationship with the patient.

TRAINING: ADULT NEUROLOGICAL FIELD
Identification of the main problems of the neurological patient, after an accurate evaluation, using a clinical reasoning.Identification and implementation of the relative therapeutic proposals, supervised by the internship guide.Knowledge and choice of aids and orthoses suitable for the patient and the ability to correctly train them.Knowledge of the foundations of therapeutic education.Knowledge of the basics for the design of the patient's home return, in collaboration with the reference territorial figures.Good mastery in designing and conducting a rehabilitative treatment on the adult patient with neurological problems, using a clinical reasoning.Knowledge and implementation of the principles of a correct communication and relationship with the patient, his family and other professionals involved in taking charge and in care and discharge.

TRAINING: NEUROLOGICAL CHILDHOOD FIELD
Identify the main problems of the child; hypothesize and implement some therapeutic proposals.Assume which aids and orthoses may be necessary for the child to reach a certain function.Knowledge of the principles and methods of team work.Knowledge of the principles of correct communication with the family.Knowledge of the foundations of therapeutic education.
CAPACITY of:
- carry out anamnestic collection
- analyze the psycho-motor repertoire, organizational strategies and their functional use
- analyze the child's behavior with respect to the context
- hypothesizing the rehabilitation setting.in relation to the different neurological and neuropsychiatric clinical pictures.
Ability to design and implement, with supervision, a rehabilitation treatment of the child.Ability to propose a therapeutic education program.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY FIELD
KNOWLEDGE of the methods of construction and resolution of foreground questions (PICOM) for the resolution of problems of clinical practice.Operational knowledge of study drawings and related test statistics.
EVALUATION of the methodological quality of the studies through the International Statement.
AUTONOMY in the structuring of the Thesis Project which will be constructed and drafted as a study design, according to the related international statement.

Teaching methods

The internship includes the following activities:
• Internship guided by the professional figures identified by the Degree Course as tutor / internship guides
• Research Methodology Laboratory (with relative evaluation)
• Individual or group learning activities, through simulations and / or exercises
• Development of reports, rehabilitation folders and deliveries
• Seminar and study activities, also aimed at preparing the Degree Thesis
• Guided visits to structures / events
• Annual Practice Test, at the end of each year of the course.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student will be examined on an adult and pediatric neurological patient regarding:
 presentation of the clinical case, including social data and identification of the main problems, in relation to the functions analyzed
 evaluation of the patient's resources, from the point of view of global and selective movement
 identification of the short, medium and long-term objectives
 organize the therapeutic setting and then plan and / or demonstrate some therapeutic proposals
 ability to hypothesise elements of therapeutic education for caregivers
 ability to describe the clinical picture and functional strategies that the child, with central neurological pathology, peripheral and / or neuropsychiatric, puts in place to achieve their goals
 ability to identify the significant aspects of the therapist-patient relationship and to implement appropriate behavior with the patient and his family
