Integrated course unit module: HUMAN OBSTETRIC AND PSYCHOPEDAGOGIC SCIENCES

Learning objectives

Part 1:
1.To let the students achieve the necessary knowledge in order to make the diagnosis of “low risk” at the moment of the admission.
2.To make the students reflect upon the pregnant's needs at the admission moment and to let them identify the most appropriate responses. To attain the knowledge of the different modalities of verbal and non-verbal communication and to be able to apply them in an effective way.
3.To provide for the knowledge and the comprehension of the patience's admission modalities to put in practice during the training.
Part 2:
1.To provide for the knowledge about the physiology of the labor, the delivery and the post-partum.
Part 3 Achievement of:
1.knowledge and comprehension of the surveillance's modalities of maternal and fetal well-being
2.knowledge of cardiotocography basic elements
3.the ability of reading and interpreting CTG tracks

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the female genital apparatus's basic anatomy.

Course unit content

First lessons are about the acceptance of full-term pregnancy and the elements which identify the “obstetric low-risk” (triage).
The second part of the course faces the basic aspects of birth's physiology, in its clinical and psychological aspects.
The third part is about monitoring the well-being of both the mother and the fetus during the physiological labor; in particular we will refer to the use of intermittent monitoring and to cardiotocography .
