Curriculum Vitae

Date of birth: July 21, 1972; place of birth: Piacenza, Italy. Doctor in Drug Chemistry and Tecnology at the University of Parma in 1997. Grant on the National Drugs Project in 1998-1999. 1999-2004 Research Assistant at the Institute of Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy, Laboratory of Cellular Pharmacology, Director Prof. Franco Bemini, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Parma in 1999-2004. Visiting Scientist at Joseph Stokes Jr. Research Institute, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, USA, directed by Prof. George Rothblat to study the mechanisms of atherogenesis and the reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) in 2000-2001 and 2002. Researcher Assistant Professor at Department of Pharmacological and Biological Sciences and Applied Chemistries, University of Parma in 2004. Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology in 2005. Member of the Italian Society of Pharmacology (SIF) and Italian Society of Atherosclerosis (SISA). Member of the International Society of Arteriosclerosis (IAS) and European Lipoprotein Club (ELC). Invited in 2007 by Prof. G. Rothblat at J. Stokes Jr. Research Institute at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to give a scientific seminar on "Lipoprotein acceptors and cellular cholesterol efflux: insights from genetic HDL disorders". Most relevant national and international scientific collaborations: Prof. LAURA CALABRESI: University of Milan, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacological Sciences, Milan, Italy; Prof. SEBASTIANO CALANDRA: University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Department of Pharmacological Biomedical Sciences, Modena, Italy; Prof. GEORGE ROTHBLAT: Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Abramson Research Center, Philadelphia, USA; Prof. WENDY JESSUP, Centre for Vascular Research, University of New South Wales, Sidney, Australia. Involved in the operating units for these projects: National Drugs Project in 1997-2000. Project funded by the European Community in 1998-2002. FIRB 2001. MURST (1998-2000; 2000-2002; 2005-2007). 2009-2011 Advance Diagnostics in Lipidology (ADSL) Project (DiAL-ER); 2009-2011 Cariplo Foundation, Biomedical Research; COST Action BM0904 HDL-From Biological Understanding to Clinical Exploitation. Involved in the operating units for the projects with different pharmaceutical companies: Fournier, Glaxo, Recordati, Sigma-Tau, Kowa, Roche, Astrazenaca. Reviewer for the following international journal: Circulation, Lipids, Biochemical Journal and Atherosclerosis. Main research areas: physiology and pharmacology of atherosclerosis and cholesterol metabolism with particularly interest to cellular cholesterol efflux processes. Dr. Favari has an experience in evaluating cholesterol metabolic processes at cellular level. Recently she provided differents contributions to the elucidation of the process of reverse cholesterol transport. Author of 27 papers in indexed international journals with and H-index of 15 (WOS). Participations at several national and international scientific meetings.

Research topics

Physiology and pharmacology of atherosclerosis and intracellular cholesterol metabolism with interest to cellular cholesterol efflux pathways, first step of reverse cholesterol transport as athero-protective process. Studies are aimed at defining i) the role of membrane transporters to mediate cellular cholesterol efflux; ii) the capacity of different acceptors to promote cell cholesterol efflux and the HDL formation; iii) evaluation of cholesterol efflux potential of sera from subjects with different lipoprotein profiles.
